Join the World Wide Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2012 tomorrow by switching off your lights between 8:30pm-9:30pm, and show your support for an energy-saving lifestyle approach. Here in Hong Kong, we’ve come a long way since our initial participation of Earth Hour in 2009. This year, our emails at the office have overflowed with the overwhelming number of pledges by our partners, which has also encouraged us to take a stance.
AsiaTatler.com will dim the lights on our site from 6pm until midnight on March 31 to show our commitment to promoting energy-saving practices, and we hope that you will join us in our efforts by switching your lights off at home and encouraging your friends and family to do so too.
Last year 2.7 million people in Hong Kong switched off their lights and were joined by 3,200 buildings and organisations, 328 schools and youth groups, and all of Hong Kong’s universities. And this year the event is shaping up to look bigger and better. JW Marriott, Hotel Nikko, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Holiday Inn Golden Mile, W Hotel, The Mira, Crown Plaza, Marco Polo, Excelsior, Renaissance Harbour View, Island Shangri-la and the InterContinental Hong Kong will be among other hotels who will be doing their part to show that they care. We’re told that Excelsior will in fact go beyond the hour and keep the lights off till the next day.
Other supporting Hong Kong faculties will include Sevva, Baker and Mckenzie, BMW, the British Consulate, Cathay Pacific, CLSA and of course our property giants Cheung Kong Properties, Sino Group of Hotels, Shun Tak Holdings, HongKong Land and Henderson Land.
Earth Hour takes place annually on the last Saturday of March at 8:30pm each year around the world – mark your calendar.
