If you thought that cruises were just for the old and sedentary, think again. Norwegian Cruise Line, in partnership with Scuderia Ferrari Watches, is building the world’s first racetrack at sea on board the Norwegian Joy cruise ship, which launches this summer.
As part of the entertainment facilities for guests, the two-level competitive track features 10 electric go-karts and will be positioned on the top deck of the ship, offering racers a view of the sea as they turn laps.
The barriers on the track are red and feature the Ferrari Prancing Horse crest displayed prominently around the circuit. Complimentary rides will be given to passengers staying in certain cabin types.
This is the first time Ferrari Watches has partnered on a branded go-kart track, and a collection of Scuderia Ferrari watches will be available at a retail store near the racetrack.
The Norwegian Joy is the first purpose-built ship customised for the Chinese cruise market and will have room for 3,850 passengers. The ship will also have a racing simulator, multi-story waterslides and open-air laser tag. Norwegian Joy is expected to arrive in China in June, where she will welcome her first guests at home ports in Shanghai and Tianjin.
