Leading Japanese jeweller Mikimoto held an cocktail party to toast the launch of its book, The Pearl Necklace, published by Assouline. It was hosted by Mikimoto Hong Kong’s managing director, Yasuhiko Hashimoto. Guests were able to try on unique pieces of pearl jewellery flown in specially for the occasion. The star of the show was the Marilyn Monroe necklace, a classic 16-inch single strand of 44 akoya cultured pearls with a Mikimoto signature gold clasp that was given to the Hollywood starlet by Joe DiMaggio, her second husband, during their honeymoon in Japan in 1954.
