The Venetian Carnival

The Venetian Carnival in Macau is back. After last year’s launch with a Brazilian samba theme, the 2012 world carnival motif is New Orleans Mardi Gras. This year’s Venetian Carnival promises three nights of international music, delicious food and wine, musical parades and non-stop live entertainment around The Venetian Macao’s Lagoon area, from May 25 to 27.

Those who have been swept up in a Mardi Gras in the past will know that the exuberant atmosphere from the crowd and performers alike makes this event one not to be missed. And for those who haven’t, photos and words barely do it justice. This is your chance to experience it all. There will be an abundance of booths with local and international foods, beverages and souvenirs, along with face painters, The Venetian Macao’s very own troupe of Streetmosphere entertainers, gondola rides as well as beer and wine gardens. Admission to the carnival is free.

The Charity Ball

In addition to jazz legend, George Benson's live performance at the Venetian Theatre on May 25, this year’s Venetian Carnival will also launch an open International Jazz & Blues Competition, sponsored by Coca-Cola, for a talent showdown among groups, vocalists and instrumentalists. The 12 specially selected contestants will have their flight packages, ferry tickets, accommodation, and food and beverage sponsored by The Venetian Macao, as well as have the chance to play live for a cash prize pool of HK$500,000.

The exhilarating festival will be given a glamorous twist on the night of May 26, when a black-tie Mardi Gras Costume Charity Ball will be held. For MOP 1,200, guests will enjoy live performances, a cocktail reception and a charity auction. International entertainers such as blues band The Nevilles, The Michael Foster Brass Band and Cajun group The Pine Leaf Boys, four-time Grammy award nominees, who are all flying in directly from New Orleans to add an authentic Louisiana flavour to the event.
