A politician, academic, author, think tank leader, lawyer and financial trader, Christine Loh has been at the forefront of Hong Kong public life for more than three decades.

Originally trained as a lawyer, she worked for many years as a commodities trader before becoming a member of the Legislative Council from 1992 to 1997 and from 1998 to 2000, and then Undersecretary for the Environment from 2012 to 2017.

She is also the founder and former CEO of independently funded public policy think tank Civic Exchange, which focuses on the environment and conservation, but also researches areas such as urban design and general well-being, and has produced more than 200 reports since 2000. A prolific author and a regular radio and television presenter, she is an adjunct professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a former research fellow at The University of Hong Kong.

She is also a former director of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, a former chairperson of Friends of the Earth Hong Kong and the co-founder of environmental pressure group the Society for Protection of the Harbour. She has a Silver Bauhinia Star and an OBE, and is a JP.
