Headed by its chairman, Marjorie Yang, Esquel Group is a leading total-solution provider in the textile and apparel industry. It is also a phenomenon in shirt-making: the company manufactures more than 110 million cotton shirts a year for a range of brands, including Fila, Hugo Boss, L.L Bean, and Muji; as well as under its own brands, including PYE and Determinant. Esquel was founded by her father, Yang Yuanlong, but it was Marjorie who has transformed it into the company it is today since becoming its chairman in 1995.

Marjorie Yang is an independent non-executive director for Budweiser Brewing Company APAC Limited; a director of Serai Limited, HSBC’s digital venture for global trade; and the chairman of the Seoul International Business Advisory Council. Among her many positions in the educational sector, Yang is on the board of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT and is a member of Harvard’s advisory board. She was also chairman of the Council of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for six years, until 2015.

Her extensive philanthropic activities have taken in areas including education, healthcare, social welfare and the environment, and she is a member of the steering committee of United National Global Compact Action Platform on Sustainable Infrastructure for the Belt and Road Initiative. Yang is also a former member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a recipient of the Gold Bauhinia Star.

She is the mother of Dee Poon, who also has a leadership role in the family business.
