The very definition of versatility, Ronald Arculli has been a lawyer, a politician, a cultural champion and much else besides. The chairman of insurance company FWD Group, he is also a senior partner of King & Wood Mallesons, which merged with Arculli, Fong & Ng, the law firm he co-founded. He was formerly the chairman of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, the company behind the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Arculli also has a prominent career in public service, as a former member of both the Legislative Council and the Executive Council, the Hong Kong chief executive’s cabinet. A recipient of both the Grand Bauhinia Medal in Hong Kong and an OBE in the UK, he is also an advisor to NGOs including Social Value Hong Kong, Common Purpose and Light Be, and is a former chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the city’s largest charitable contributor.

In his personal life, he’s a keen art collector and promoter of the arts; vice chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority; and a director of the Asia Art Archive, he was also formerly chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. But perhaps his greatest passion of all is horse racing: an owner of numerous horses, he even has a race named after him—the Arculli Trophy, which he won in 2020 with his horse Red Desert.
