As the former executive vice president of consumer goods supply chain group Luen Thai, responsible for its accessories division, Sunny Tan successfully shepherded the company through a period of rapid growth since joining in 1999, expanding its manufacturing base beyond mainland China to Southeast Asia. Having been elected to the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR for the Textiles and Garment functional constituency, he currently serves as a senior adviser to Luen Thai.

In the past, Tan was an investment banker with Merrill Lynch. He is also a dedicated public servant, taking on a very broad range of voluntary roles, including deputy chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; executive vice chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Textiles; council member of both the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Vocational Training Council; and executive committee member of the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council. He is also an advisory board member of the Center for Family Business at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a former vice chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and chairman of Tung Wah College. Tan is also a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

He has two children with his wife, chef and former model Esther Sham, alongside whom he is a regular at many of the city’s most exclusive parties.
