We speak to the young restaurateur making waves in Hong Kong's thriving dining scene

With a stint at Imperial Business School, one would expect Pearl Shek to be climbing the corporate ladder. Instead, she has excelled in the field of hospitality as the co-director of restaurants Vasco and Isono. Pearl conducts herself with humility and a maturity beyond her 26 years. “Working in the service industry is actually really humbling,” she says. “You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat and talk to people who serve them.” She loves to travel, exercise and practise calligraphy, but spending time with family and her seven dogs is her top priority. “I love that my job allows me the flexibility to be around them.” We suspect managing seven pets helped her become such an expert multitasker. She’s now working on a new restaurant concept and has her eyes set on a Michelin star.
