We go behind the scenes of the committee member’s photo-shoot for this year’s Hong Kong Ballet Ball

With more than 40 dancers representing from all corners of the world, the Hong Kong Ballet has evolved into one of Asia’s leading classical ballet troupes, with a strong repertoire complemented by a range of stunning and technically difficult productions. With over thirty years since its creation, the Hong Kong Ballet is now taking graceful steps to elevate the art of ballet in the hearts of the city’s young.

Luckily, the Hong Kong Ballet has enlisted the help of Daisy Ho—its chairman, who aims to completely overhaul ballet’s image in the eyes of local youths. However, such an exercise requires much needed help and in doing so Ho and Hong Kong Ballet Ball 2014 co-chair Mira Yeh enlisted the help of Maya Lin, who invited 10 of Hong Kong’s most capable artistic warriors to help charge forward in rebranding the Ballet Ball this year. The committee includes Jennifer Ma, Diana Chen, Veronica Lam, Colleen Fung, Alicia Tan, Rendy Ng, Vena Cheng, Eric Fok, Ambrose Lee, and Ronald Kwok.

We quizzed the committee members about where they feel the value of ballet lies, and Colleen Fung believes it is in its fundamentally expressive nature—the precision and the ease of movement of each dancer with their carefully rehearsed techniques. Alicia Tan says, “Some tatler_stories are better told in ballet.” Rendy Ng agrees, saying, “Ballet has the power of telling the same tatler_stories in different ways—it isn’t bound by time or facades.”

With Prada as the Ballet Ball’s main sponsor this year and Perrier-Jouët as the champagne partner, there’s no doubt that it will be a highlight on the Hong Kong social calendar.
