Boat trips, pool parties, beach dates – these are just some of the things we love the most about spending the summer season in Hong Kong. With that in mind, it is worth spending time to find the statement swimsuit that allow you to flatter the assets we love.

For some, swimsuit shopping can be a daunting experience thanks to the unrealistic standards set by models with their streamlined silhouettes. But by equipping ourselves with the right shape-defining cutouts that bring out the best of our bodies, everyone can flaunt this season’s sultry swimwear by the pool, on the beach and beyond.

We consulted Eve Thomas, Fashion Director at The Outnet.com, for her expert secrets to finding the prefect swimwear that flatters our body type and allow us to feel ready for that Baywatch remake.

It’s all about the one-piece this summer

There was a time when the one-piece was considered as the last resort, better suited to camouflaging your winter body on a spontaneous beach day. But the truth is – the one-piece has made a big comeback this year, as spotted on fashion-forward celebrities such as Vanessa Hudgens and Bella Hadid.

“The one-piece has had a real renaissance over the last few summers and is a far more modern choice than a bikini,” says Thomas. Thanks to alluring upgrades such as hip-baring cuts and spare keyhole details, we can now channel Baywatch-chic when dressed in one of these swimsuits. “The one-piece can also be easily dressed up with with wide-leg pants or flirty shorts for lunch or poolside drinks,” pointed out Thomas.

Fashion-forward and sporty, a high-neck cut nods to the ‘90s trend that looks set to stay. Forgo fussy prints or over-the-top graphics, and opt for solid and bold stripes as seen in this model who is working French-label Perfect Moment’s stylish one-piece.

Figure it out

As a rule of thumb, always identify your body type before choosing a silhouette to flaunt the assets we love. Whether you are a pear-shape, hourglass or athletic – everybody can be a beach body if they pick the right suit.

“Those with a larger bust should for look for a halter-neck style to provide support and a dark block colour for a slimming sihouette, while ladies with a smaller chest look great in a bandeau style such as the ones by Melissa Odabvash,” points out Thomas. For girls who are blessed with athletic figures, in order words – with broad shoulders, narrower hips and muscular legs – throw on the cut-away styles to add curves. Norma Kamali is a good place to start.

Pick one that you feel the most confident in

As we’re making a splash in the pool or running around during a vigorous beach volleyball game, the most important thing is to be comfortable.

Yes, when it comes to practicality, we all know that a one-piece always wins over a bikini. “They are practical, which means you automatically feel less self-conscious in them, which is the key to both looking and feeling body confident on the beach or in the sea, says Thomas.

Do invest in a classic piece

If there’s only one single piece of swimwear you can own in your life, always go back to black with minimalistic designs. “Look for classic styles that will never date. Every woman should invest in a black one-piece,” underlines Thomas, who is a proud owner of a black halter-neck one-piece by Eres. Get inspired by celebrity-approved pieces such as the low-cut plain black one as seen on the likes of Selena Gomez.

To make a playful and visually-arresting statement, go for signature printed styles by Missoni and Emilio Pucci prints, which are also always perennially chic and complete any beachwear wardrobe, advises Thomas.

Spice up your swimsuit with accessories

Elevate your pool-party game by adorning your staple with stylish and beach-friendly accessories. Do invest in game-changing shades, like a pair of mirrored sunglasses by Linda Farrow, which can inject a modern edge to any look.

Nothing shouts understated beach glamour than a pair of turquoise earrings by Carbon & Hyde, which is embellished by meticulous gems. An elegant wide-brimmed hat like this one by Maison Michel can keep your face from the sun and allow you to look on point.
