Bring your valentine along for a day of pampering and relaxation at one of the spa’s many relaxing locations

Valentine’s Day may be a holiday created to boost Hallmark sales in the month of February, but it’s one that we just can’t help celebrating, if only for our love of heart-shaped greeting cards and red roses. For anyone  looking to treat their loved one (and themselves!) to a day of pampering, the Be My Valentine treatment at Sense of Touch may be just right.

Ascending the stairs into the Lan Kwai Fong Sense of Touch spa on the bustling D’Aguilar Street, the dim lighting and soothing music instantly put us at ease. We arrive at the reception, a brightly lit and energetic floor within the five-story spa. Brands such as Elemis, Dermalogica, Aromatherapy Associates and Murad are all used here, and are on display for purchase, while a make-up station anchors the room. The receptionist greets us warmly and introduces us to one of our therapists Rama, who then leads us upstairs to the fifth floor where our treatment will take place.

Rama quietly explains what the treatment will entail: a warming milk bath, followed by a lime ginger salt glow scrub from Elemis and an one-hour fusion and stress-releasing massage utilising Aromatherapy Associates body oils and de-stressing muscle gels. The baths are already drawn for us and Rama explains that we can soak for twenty minutes before she returns. The couples room is outfitted with two wooden baths, a steam shower, private bathroom and two therapy tables; it is compact, but well laid out and extremely relaxing.

The milk bath is effectively soothing and is the perfect temperature to warm up our cold hands and feet. 20 minutes seemed to fly by as Rama re-enters the room to prepare for the body scrub. After instructing me to face down on one of the massage tables, Rama begins to scrub my legs with the salt glow. Methodically working up to my back and shoulders, she massages the scrub briskly onto my skin before asking me to turn over so she can finish the rest of my body. The scent from the scrub is invigorating and keeps you relaxed, but awake throughout this sector of the treatment. As the 35-minute scrub comes to an end, we are asked to rinse off in the steam shower before our massage. As I rub the salt scrub off my body, my skin feels softer than it has in a long time and I feel rejuvenated.

Moving back onto the massage tables, our stress-releasing massage begins. Rama, with some Aromatherapy Associates body oil, takes long and gliding strokes along my back that soothe me into a light sleep. I awake as she asks me to turn over so she can massage my hands, neck and head. Her hands knead into the knots at the base of my neck and she ends the rubdown with a revitalising head massage.

At this point, we did not want the treatment to end and, luckily for us, it didn’t. After redressing and reawakening fully, we are led up to the spa’s private rooftop, a definite sanctuary in the midst of the city. A set of chocolate fondue complete with strawberries and marshmallows, as well as two glasses of champagne and some cups of lemongrass tea await us. The sweet ending to this treatment is the perfect way to cuddle up to your loved one this Valentine’s Day.

The two hour Be My Valentine treatment is priced at HK$3,280 for two and is available only at the Repulse Bay, Lan Kwai Fong and Tseung Kwan O spas.
