Rejuvenate your skin with a targeted facial treatment for a fresh look this Spring

Emerging from the HydraFacial treatment at the Sense of Touch Medi-Spa, I can’t decide whether I’m amazed or horrified at all the impurities my therapist was able to remove from my face in just 45 minutes. It’s a rare occurrence for me to allow myself a moment of pampering, but with the days of winter long behind us, it felt like an opportune moment to step up my beauty game and rejuvenate my dry and dull skin.

The Sense of Touch Medi-Spa is discreetly located in a commercial building nestled among restaurants and bars along Wyndham Street. While some may remark that the location is not what you would expect from an award-winning facility, the Medi-Spa’s medical director Dr. Wally Chen Teck Meng points out that this was all done by design. Surrounded by offices, one could simply slip in for a quick treatment, and leave just as quickly without anyone realising.

The waiting area of the Medi-Spa is brightly lit and simply decorated, with soothing tunes playing overhead. Walking through the glass doors, a rounded reception desk at the back calls your attention, with the shelves of beauty products available for purchase drawing a close second. Before I begin my HydraFacial treatment, I’m asked to fill out a multi-page consultation form, noting any allergies or recent procedures they should be aware of.

The check-in process feels a little clinical, but considering that this is also a facility that offers lunchtime Botox, the brief medical history probe wasn’t surprising. The HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses top-notch technology to aid the process of skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. It isn’t long before our therapist Tulsa arrives and leads us to our treatment room, where we detect the aroma of lemongrass and ginger.

We settle in and Tulsa gently explains the different procedures that the HydraFacial entails, and examines our skin to pinpoint areas that require a little more attention. What you will immediately notice is the HydraFacial machine in the room, which looks almost like a mini-fridge with four bottles inside – each one containing a solution for each step of the treatment: Activ-4 (a cleanser that helps to soften sebum and impurities), Beta-HD (helps to remove impurities such as whiteheads and blackheads), Antiox-6 (a hydrating solution that helps to fight against free radicals and environmental damage), and GlySal (a gentle glycolic and salicylic acid peel).

With a traditional manual facial, various solutions are slathered and massage into your face by hand. Here, however, the HydroPeel tip (which is shaped like a thick marker) that is connected to the machine simultaneously deposits solutions onto your face and vacuums up any impurities. The entire process was quick and painless, even when removing blackheads, and flows through each step of the process without notice.

After the final solution of the treatment is applied, the machine is turned off and we are given a rejuvenating collagen mask, helping to bolster the effects of the treatment. Finally, a range of moisturising Murad products is lightly dabbed across my face to add an additional layer of nourishment and protection.

Looking into the mirror immediately after the treatment, perhaps it was the layer of moisturiser, but my skin gave off a glow, and was smooth and supple to the touch. It was almost as if a layer of hydration had been injected into my face, refreshing my tired eyes. Tulsa recommended that I remain vigilant in putting on daily SPF in the days following the treatment, as the new skin revealed during the HydraFacial would be sensitive. I leave the Medi-Spa feeling renewed, ready to take on the challenges of Spring.

The 45-minute HydraFacial treatment is priced at HK$1,200. For reservations, contact Sense of Touch Medi-Spa at +852 2861-1800
