Roland Boutin and David Gouygou of the Grand Hyatt’s new salon take us back in time to get this summer’s key hairstyles

Founded by Roland Boutin and David Gougyou, two of Hong Kong’s most renowned stylists, the new Bruneblonde salon at the Grand Hyatt hotel oozes Parisian charm and has become the ultimate chic hideout for Hong Kong’s leading men and women.

With roots in France, Boutin and Gougyou trained and worked in Paris’ top salons before moving to Asia almost twenty years ago. The pair’s understanding of their cosmopolitan clientele has led them to gather a team full of talent, finesse and poise. Not only have they expanded their business by opening their very own salon, but the duo have also created their own line of products that focus on hair care.

We checked in with Boutin and Gouygou to get their tips for this summer and how to beat the heat with fantastic hairstyles. With Boutin showing us the sleek and groomed way of the 50s and Gouygou recreating the voluminous and polished hair of the 60s, the duo take us back in time to show us what’s hot now in the world of hair.

With a flick of the wrist and unwavering finesse, Boutin sculpts the male model’s hair into a 50s-inspired look; a hairstyle most recently seen on many of the men’s runway shows in Europe. By spritzing some water onto the dry hair, Boutin aims to bring back the natural wave and texture of the hair before pulling the hair back with some pomade and a fine-toothed comb. Not only does the pomade help to create the groomed look that he is aiming for, but it also lends the hair a healthy shine. Once combed back and into place, a bit of hairspray does the trick to hold the hairstyle in place.

Next, Gouygou aims to recreate a look of the 60s – mod, glamourous and, above all, voluminous. After the model sits under the dryer with large round curlers in her hair for twenty minutes, Gouygou delicately unravels the curlers to reveal hair that holds volume, shine and a beautifully subtle curl. In order to really turn back time, Gouygou backcombs the hair at the crown of the head to add more volume and follows by blow drying some face-framing pieces of hair in place. With a few touches here and there, Gouygou completes the hairstyle with hairspray for a look that is seemingly effortless. Lastly, Gouygou shows us the perfect look to take the hair from day to night. Simply and easily, he grasps the end of the hair, twisting upwards and pinning in place with a chic barette and several hairclips. Once completed, another touch of hairspray sets the look in place.
