The Hermès Pop-up exhibit is on display at PMQ until September 28

Hermés Focus

Anyone familiar with luxury leather goods knows Hermès is a leader in terms of the highest quality of craftsmanship since 1837.

Essentially, the magical exhibit is an escapist journey returning to the roots of the company’s DNA, putting on display the core elements that have driven the brand’s success to date.

The smell of fragrant leather is the first thing that tickles the senses. Multiple types of hide are displayed throughout the space in a variety of colors and exotic skins, in order to demonstrate how materials are carefully chosen and divided into the construction of some of Hermès signature products. Be it the soft touch of fresh Togo leather or the skin of a Porous crocodile, there is something for everyone’s tastes upon entering the space. A craftsman, flown in from Paris is on hand carefully constructing a bag illustrating the investment of time and attention to detail contributed to each piece.

Time is a commodity clearly present in each product’s construction and a crucial ingredient that has driven the success of the brand. Evident from the extensive range of products on display throughout the exhibit, Hermès is proud of their heritage and is quick to remind spectators that leather is the seed that provided for the brand’s success and growing popularity.

Leather has always been a feature since the brand’s inception, through saddles and equestrian accessories. There are several references throughout the exhibit tracing to the brand’s equestrian heritage, with exotic skinned riding boots, accessories and even a simulation where spectators can experience the comforts of a Hermès saddle.

The simplicity or elegance of the brands discretion can be attributed to their global appeal and name recognition. Hermès ability to speak volumes without saying a word or rather to be quietly assertive, an asset that other brands continually attempt to replicate. The travelling exhibit has already been stationed in Shanghai, Rome, London, Madrid, and Taipei before arriving in Hong Kong earlier this month.

Indeed, the concept of travel itself is vital to showing how the brand has evolved, while concurrently illustrating how consumer tastes have changed.

The products are designed for mobility and ease of travel, the classic finishing and durability of the pieces retain their value and become part of your daily essentials. Despite being an innate quality of the label’s personality, what Leather Forever demonstrates is that Hermès has managed to cement their positioning through a commitment to quality craftsmanship and a refined, classic aesthetic.

Leather Forever illustrates how Hermès has remained true to their values and withstood the test of time resulting in an ability to defy trends and product seasonality. The whimsical exhibit is not just a narrative about leather – it is a story of the Hermès journey and how the brand has travelled through time to become an in-demand classic that will forever remain en vogue
