Favourite Luxury Fashion Retailer: Chanel

With more than a century of unerring elegance behind it, the House of Chanel manages to surf a wave of timeless sexiness and eternal youth—literally in the case of its new Baz Luhrmann-directed ad for Chanel No.5, which sees Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen (right) riding the ocean swell on a Chanel surfboard while singer-songwriter Lo-Fang croons a slow and sultry version of You’re the One That I Want from the musical Grease. The shopping experience at some of Chanel’s most famous retail locations has been given an extra touch of glamour by star interior designer Peter Marino in recent years, while Karl Lagerfeld can take much of the credit for the brand’s growth in popularity in the past three decades, during which time he has been creative director—even if he at times has courted controversy, most recently through the faux feminist protest that concluded his spring/summer 2015 catwalk show in Paris. It would take much more than this, however, to take the shine off the brand that you voted your Favourite Luxury Fashion Retailer 2014.

2nd Dior continues to exude fresh-faced glamour with a whole lot of sex appeal, as evidenced by its most recent campaigns featuring smouldering brand ambassadors Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman. You obviously approve, voting the brand in at number two.

3rd Since taking the reins at third-placed Chloé in 2011, Clare Waight Keller has shown the talent that previously revitalised Pringle of Scotland, bringing a renewed sense of sparkle to the brand while maintaining the trademark sense of romance.

Hong Kong’s Pick: Chanel

Chanel was also the top choice for Hongkongers, while there were signs of the rising popularity of online shopping as Net-a-Porter snagged second place. Iconic temples to the art of retail therapy on either side of the pond—London’s Selfridges and New York’s Barneys—were inseparable in third place.
