We give you an exclusive look at what went down when we dressed one of Hong Kong’s most stylish women in Michael Kors for a spread in this month’s issue

When Helen Ma arrives at DanFo’s studio in the depths of Chai Wan’s industrial zone, we can’t help but nervously bite our nails; clad in a basic white tank top, light wash boyfriend jeans and classic nude Louboutins, her simple and chic style is in sharp contrast to with the flirty and flowy Michael Kors dresses that stylist Veronica Li has lined up for her. However, Ma, who admits to being a little nervous herself after peeking at the lookbook the night before, is in for a little surprise.

When the Hong Kong Tatler’s Most Stylish Woman alum steps out of the dressing room in the first look of the bunch, we catch her playfully twirling around, letting the light chiffon hem fill with air and dance around her knees. She notices us looking, and flashes a warm smile. “I’m so impressed with the quality of the fabrics Kors is using. The cutting and fitting, as well.” The way the dress drapes over her body immediately eases our nerves; Ma embraces and rocks the flirty look.

Mellow tunes set the tone for the stripped back industrial shoot, which takes place in the dusty hallway outside of the studio. Photographer Earl Wan keeps things simple with a grey backdrop, sans props. Things get hot and sticky, and make-up artist Megumi Sekine is quick to touch up Ma’s bright red lipstick and peachy cheeks. Thanks to hairstylist Kim Robinson, Ma’s slick, gelled-back hairstyle requires zero maintenance, and five hours and five outfit changes later, it’s still in place.
