We catch up with the newly-appointed creative director of Emilio Pucci on his recent visit to Hong Kong with I.T to celebrate the launch of his first boutique

Massimo Giorgetti launched MSGM in 2009, and has been named one of the most promising young designers in numerous publications. In just a few short years, MSGM has grown to become a go-to label for all things bright and beautiful, and Giorgetti has also recently been appointed as the creative director of Emilio Pucci.

I used to DJ for fun before I launched my own collection. It was something I really enjoyed doing, and I like to think that the experience led me to bring elements of fun to my collections through playful materials and vibrant colours.

I find my inspiration from everything – the arts, social media, architecture, photography – but one of the most fundamental aspects of my creativity is music. Music has always influenced my designs.

Creating clothes has always been my passion. I went to school for accounting, but I quickly learnt I was studying for the wrong degree. At 17 years old, I remember always eagerly waiting for the weekend, so I could go to the newsstand to buy all the fashion magazines. I bought and read all of fashion magazines I could get my hands on.

MSGM stands for the initials of the names of the people that were involved in the brand from the very beginning. It also kind of reminds me of the Indie rock band MGMT, which we used to listen to a lot back when we first started.

The MSGM woman is someone who loves fashion at its core. She’s not a fashion victim, but she’s incredibly well informed and in touch with what’s current. She’s courageous and irreverent, much like the label.

The Fall/Winter 2015 collection shows a mature MSGM woman. It’s still fun, but the graphics centred more around colour blocks, not just prints, which I think is what we were known for previously. There’s still the element of sportswear in it, with a touch of nostalgia. We have some retro looking florals and a colour palette that’s reminiscent of the 1970s.

My favourite pieces from the latest collection are the ankle grazing fluorescent coats with contrasting pockets.
