Put your best foot forward and make an entrance with these of-the-moment dresses for Hong Kong Tatler's society soirée this weekend

It's that time of the year again for the society soiree, the Hong Kong Tatler Ball. Head-to-toe glamour is the order of the day, and with a week to go before the ball, I head to Lane Crawford's new Occasion Dressing Room and Jewellery Salon to find the perfect gown.

Evening wear from each these of-the-moment designers are all about bending the rules whilst maintaining the elegance that formality calls for. Dressing the part has never been more fun, and I can't wait to see what everyone else will be wearing at the ball!

The Hong Kong Tatler Ball takes place at The Grand Hyatt hotel on September 19, 2015. Follow the action: #HKTatlerBall2015

I love the ethereal look of this Esteban Cortazar crinkle silk chiffon gown. It feels like a dream on and moves so beautifully. The leather trimming along the sleeves and the hem give this gown an architectural element and an edge to an extremely feminine and sultry silhouette. If there was one gown to feel like a princess in without going down the typical route, this is it.

Black is always a safe option, but there's certainly nothing boring about this Rosie Assoulin 'Bunny Frou Frou' bow tie crepe gown. It drapes easily over the body, and highlights the neck and shoulders with structural bow ties. The overall look is effortless yet unique, chic but with a twist, and you can definitely dance all night long in this!

For something more form fitting, Roksanda Ilincic cuts a beautiful shape with this 'Bartlett" crepe dress. The clean lines are spiced up with a colorful ruffled collar and a subtle line of pink down the back. It's a lesson in contrast and subtle elegance, and also holds you in in all the right places. I must confess I felt very svelte in this dress, a word I don't use often!

Jewellery is of course another important element to black-tie dressing. I was spoilt for choice in the beautiful jewellery salon filled with fine jewelry in cutting edge designs, but my eyes eventually landed on these Cristina Ortiz black diamond ear cuffs and ring that I'd wear any hour of the day or night.

Although the jury is still out on whether it's acceptable to wear a shorter dress to a black-tie event, I don't think anyone can fault you when the dress is this cool. Toni Maticevski puts a spin on the traditional fairytale ballgown with this 'Endearment' heavyweight crepe dress. And let me tell you, this dress feels so luxuriously made, the skirt has just the right amount of volume, and I love the unexpected details of the elastic band, pockets covered by peplums and the use of an unconventional fabric in evening wear.

Rosie Assoulin definitely knows how to bring the unexpected into black-tie dressing. This 'La Scarpa' ball gown is made modern and fresh with the optical stripes and cut outs at the waist. A head turning gown that speaks for itself, and screams volumes for the confident woman wearing it.
