We sit down for a one-on-one with London’s most sought-after accessory designer as she pays her first visit to the SAR

While the shoes and accessories brand Charlotte Olympia launched back in 2006, its founder, London It-girl Charlotte Dellal, only saw the fashion lights casted brightly on her last year, thanks to her 2011 Best Accessory Designer at the British Fashion Awards (won the year before by yet another Cordwainer alumni, Nicholas Kirkwood). International recognition and press coverage duly followed.

Charlotte Olympia shoes are currently available at On Pedder stores (the heels start from around HK$8,000 and the flats start from HK$5,000) but responding to popular demand, they will soon be in a shop of their own as Dellal opens her first standalone boutique outside the UK in New York.

And we suspect this is only the beginning of her expansion plans. Arriving in Hong Kong for the first time alongside her husband, Dellal meets her fans and socialites at a VIP event hosted by On Pedder. As it is her first time here, we get to know the young mother (@charlotte_web) in the video interview above.

For the first time, we also gave our readers a chance to ask Dellal (@charlotte_web) a few questions via Twitter: here is a selection of the questions we asked on their behalf.

@charlotte_web: Who are your favourite artists?

Charlotte Dellal: I like a lot of photographers, I love Louise Bourgeois, not just because he uses the spider but I very much love his work. I also really love fashion photographers, I love Guy Bourdin, I love the old Charles Jourdan shoes, or van Dongen if we were going to go old school – an eclectic mix.

@charlotte_web: Where do you hang out in London? What are some of your favourite restaurants and cafes?

Charlotte Dellal: I’m a big foodie, it is like asking me to choose a favourite pair of shoes. There is a Japanese restaurant on Brook Street called Ikeda (30 Brook Street, Mayfair). My favourite is the abalone mushroom dish, not to be confused with abalone, an ingredient my husband doesn’t like.

Galleria in Marylebone (17 New Cavendish Street, Marylebone) is my favourite Middle Eastern restaurant, they actually catered for my wedding. We had Iranian food and Brazilian drinks, we merged the two cultures to get the best of both.

I also love the Wolseley (160 Piccadilly, Green Park, Mayfair), it used to be an old bank.

@charlotte_web: We all know that your brand is based on the E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, what are your other favourite books?

Charlotte Dellal: I’m a big Agatha Christie fan, my favourite novel is Evil Under the Sun. I’ve read all her books twice over, they are from an era I love. I’m just re-reading The Great Gatsby right now.

@charlotte_web: What are your plans for the London Olympics?

Charlotte Dellal: I actually have tickets to see the women’s volleyball, I’m very excited about that. I’m half-Brazilian so I’m hoping [the Brazillian will win] - you can’t really choose who you see at the Olympics. I don’t play any sports but I do still run occasionally. I’m happy to try any sport, I’m not the worst at sport nor am I the best, I’m willing to give anything a try.

@charlotte_web: What is your personal motto?

Charlotte Dellal: It’s a very tongue-in-cheek one: the higher the heel, the better you feel. I guess for work and life, it’d be “take everything a step at a time”.
