Synonymous with timeless elegance, Louis Vuitton’s new Capucines bag has been seen on the arms of sophisticated women around the world. We ask Hong Kong’s own Claudine Ying and Leigh Tung-Chou how the handbag introduces elements of chic to their everyday lives

Louis Vuitton Focus

Louis Vuitton has always been renowned for exemplifying timeless elegance. With their new Capucines bag spotted on the arms of many effortlessly stylish women around the world, including Princess Charlene of Monaco, Angelina Jolie and Michelle Yeoh, the brand’s subtle refinement is more evident than ever before.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each Capucines handbag is unparalleled and second to none, with the marriage of two leathers, a bull-calf leather and calfskin, at the heart of its creation. Many have long admired Louis Vuitton’s savoir-faire and this case is no exception to that rule. From the relaxed feel of its supple leather to the engraved rivets paying homage to the age-old trunks, the Capucines is a mix of tradition and modernity realised by craftsmanship handed down through the generations, giving it the sophistication and refinement that stand the test of time.

We ask two of Hong Kong’s most darling socialites what they think of Louis Vuitton’s new Capucines bag and how it fits into their sophisticated wardrobes.

Leigh Tung-Chou

Luxury Brands Consultant and Co-Chair of the Hong Kong Ballet Guild

With her tall and slender frame, refined features and stylish wardrobe, Leigh Tung-Chou originates from one of society’s most celebrated families. Her Louis Vuitton bag of choice is the MM Capucines in a light grey hue. “My personal style tends to be more classic, but always with a modern twist, much like the Capucines bag,” says Tung-Chou. But her love affair with the French heritage brand has definitely been ongoing. “Its legacy and DNA is immersed in travel, art and culture, which is what I think makes it synonymous not only with timeless elegance, but also with modern relevance,” she remarks.

Tung-Chou enjoys pairing her bag with a simple blazer and jeans for the day to run around with her kids. “I find the handbag extremely versatile,” she says. “It can be easily worn with a casual outfit on days where my schedule is a little bit hectic.”

For a more formal occasion, Tung-Chou enjoys adding hints of glamour with her accessories, just as her Shanghainese grandmother always told her. “A woman should always own a pair of really elegant heels, a really well made handbag and a few pieces of the best jewellery she can afford, because accessories always define your style,” Tung-Chou recalls. With her Capucines bag in tow, she wears a simple pencil dress, perfect for days when she has meetings or social luncheons.

Claudine Ying

Founder of the Bebegarten Group

As a hardworking entrepreneur and daughter of retail magnate Michael Ying, Claudine is always on the go. Even though her schedule is busy, she always seems to look impeccably chic. With a style motto of “when in doubt, go all black,” we aren’t surprised that her Capucines of choice is the BB bag in that same hue.

For daytime, Claudine likes to pair her Capucines BB bag with a simple white tee and some grey jeans. High-heeled sandals complete the outfit, resulting in a look that is confidently fashionable, yet immensely comfortable. “Timeless and elegant style means keeping everything as simple as possible, but with a bit of an edge to it,” says Ying. “As a brand, Louis Vuitton has always been a pioneer in creating fashion history and allowing for women and men of all generations, backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures look stunning and powerful.”

In the evenings, statement emerald earrings complete an all-black look that includes her Capucines bag. “This bag fits perfectly into my wardrobe, not only because it’s black, but because it’s also subtle, not too heavy and can transition from day to night. You really can’t go wrong,” says Ying.
