Available in Hong Kong this week, the highly anticipated partnership is sure to be a runaway hit

One of the things I remember most about meeting the soft spoken and fashion forward designer of Sacai, Chitose Abe, was her well-defined vision about her own personal style, which translated directly into her collections. After all, Abe would personally try everything created at Sacai on during the design process. She often mixed sportswear elements with edgy details in her one-of-a-kind mix-and-match pieces.

At one point during our interview, she peered into my tote bag and pointed at a pair of Nike running shoes, “I have the same pair; they’re great, aren’t they? I wear mine all the time”- presumably with one of her multilayered, asymmetrical pleated skirts and a peplum cable knit sweater.

Her leather bikers turned herringbone jackets or her button-down shirts with the whimsically pleated backs are some of her most iconic remixes she has done for her own label. So the Sacai partnership with NikeLab, we can expect a similar approach in Abe’s renditions of the Nike classics. “For me, Nike is an original icon with performance and innovation at its core” Abe divulges, “the idea of functionality is important to me, as is fabric innovation, which has already been at the heart of Sacai”. So the collaboration with Nike was a no brainer for the designer.

The eight-piece apparel collection includes styles taken from the Nike sport archive- the classic crew sweatshirt, the hoodie, the Windrunner jaket, sport skirt and the graphic tee- all interpreted with that iconic Sacai twist.

The NikeLab x Sacai spring collection will be launched globally on March 19 and is availble at NikeLab in Hong Kong and at Sacai's standalone store.
