The new Pucci, the merging of labels, and a male model speaks out at Rick Owens

The new Emilio Pucci

Along with the new man at Emilio Pucci (MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti took charge as creative director in March 2015), there is an undisputedly different attitude at the Italian label. Giorgetti’s debut collection, or “pilot episode” as he called it, trades in the house’s iconic Pucci prints for patterns, silhouettes and shapes of a more unconventional sort.

Marc by Marc Jacobs on its way out, and Victoria Beckham combines her denim with Victoria, Victoria Beckham

The trend seems to be streamlining – trousers and businesses alike. Marc by Marc Jacobs will be merging with the designer’s main line starting this year, which can be speculated as a possible step towards a Marc Jacobs IPO. Victoria Beckham just unveiled the first Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection since she merged it with the denim label – with circus-inspired graphics on day dresses and wide-legged culottes and flares, the new Victoria, Victoria Beckham is just the right combination of whimsy and pragmatism.

A male model voices out at the SS16 Rick Owens show

Rick Owens’ fashion shows in Paris are never short of any surprises; there has been full-frontal exposure, and step dance crews, but this season’s surprise came as a shock even to Owens himself. A male model walked down the runway with a sign that read “Please Kill Angela Merkel” (the word “Not” was also added at the end, but was obscured in the way the model held the fabric.) The label later released a statement that read, "Rick Owens does not claim responsibility for the act of protest by a model at the Spring/Summer 2016 show. This was an independent statement and does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens." Owens told various publications that he even punched the model backstage after the incident.
