Over the summer, my husband and I took our then 6-month old baby to Europe. A fan of the Lucien Barrière Hotel Group, we decided to stay at the Hotel Fouquet's Barrière when we were in Paris.  There are a lot of five star hotels in France, but the Barrière Hotels is one of our favourites. We enjoy it for its 'Frenchness'.

Originally opened in 1899 as a restaurant, the legendary Le Fouquet's Restaurant expanded into Hotel Fouquet's Barrière in 2006 situated on the Champs Elysées. During our trip this summer, our personal butler had specially arranged a suite for us, with a spacious dining and living room, walk-in closet, and a bedroom looking out to the garden of the hotel.

As much as we enjoyed the comfort of our suite that made us feel like home after many hours of traveling with an infant, baby was especially happy because he was spoiled with a range of ladybird toys in his bed, and bathtub. The Hotel Fouquet's Barrière has selected the ladybird as the mascot of all their kids' products from backpacks, to "doudou" (roughly the French equivalent to a comfort toy or blanket), to baby toiletries.

To start the day off, we had a breakfast buffet at the Restaurant Le Diane. It has a cool and quiet atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows that look out to the petite garden-terrace which housed a a series of humorous human-like animal sculptures. We were attended to by a French born-Hong Konger waiter who served us creamy Chinese congee presented à la Française, among the award-winning French pastries of the hotel and a selection of Continental food platters. Everything was beautifully presented. It was a feast for the eyes as well as for our palates.

Right after breakfast, we headed out shopping on the Champs Elysées and Avenue Montaigne, nothing beats the convenience of being able to reach all the shops within walking distance. We managed to do all our French shopping around the area and load them all back into our car before we headed off to our next stop -- Helsinki!
