Watchmaking royalty Jaeger Le-Coultre meets master of stilettos Christian Louboutin, in a collaboration that has both the watch and fashion worlds caught in a frenzy

Everybody loves a power couple, and much to the fascination of both watch and fashion enthusiasts, one was formed between two of the finest in their fields: historic watch brand Jaeger Le-Coultre, and fashion icon Christian Louboutin.

To mark the 85th year of the Reverso, Jaeger Le-Coultre approached Louboutin – whose widely known signature is his shiny, red-lacquered soles – to create his interpretation of the classic model. The result is the aptly named Atelier Classic Reverso, an ultra-feminine iteration of the Reverso.

For this piece, perhaps contrary to what many may expect, Louboutin doesn’t simply inject signature red – in fact we don’t see a tint of the famous hue anywhere in the watches – and instead introduces sensual lines and curves to the model’s famously Art Deco, symmetrical rectangular shape.

Produced in two sizes, the Reverso Classic Duetto retains its emblematic, Art Deco face, whilst it is in the back dial where one will come to appreciate Loubotin’s touches: a circular subdial, two rows of diamonds on both sides of the dial, as well as in its straps of mixed material and cut-out patterns.

Known to be extremely selective when it came to forging partnerships, Louboutin took this challenge with keen interest, as he aimed at fusing the established identities of both creations, while respecting the attributes that made them icons. And by looking at the pieces, which made their grand debut last week at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, we’d say: mission accomplished.
