The "Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon" is the latest addition to the house's Gyrotourbillon family of watches, and is set to be produced in a limited edition of only 75 pieces.

Featuring a case that houses a movement equipped with an unusual Gyrotourbillon, the platinum watch boasts an entirely openworked back dial.

At 30 percent trimmer than its predecessor in terms of both width and thickness, the timepiece is lightweight yet incredibly technical. It includes the Jaeger-LeCoultre manually-wound Calibre 179, entirely developed and produced in-house, which performs its rotations via an external driving mechanism making it appear to float in mid-air. This in turn, enables a plunging view of its airy architecture.

The two carriages of the bi-axial flying tourbillon have been pared down to their slimmest possible form, performing an external rotation in one minute and an internal rotation in 12.6 seconds.

A delicate balance-spring is also exercised on the Gyrolab balance-wheel, reducing air friction. Shaped like the Jaeger-LeCoultre anchor symbol, this component represents a breakthrough in terms of the watch's precision.

The front of the model features a finely grained white round dial swept over by blued steel Dauphine-type hands and evoking the traditions of horological sophistication. A day/night indicator appears at 11 o'clock, while the seconds are displayed in an unusual manner via a graduated disc rotating at the cadence of the Gyrotourbillon. A hand-crafted sunburst guilloché pattern echoes the finishing on the watch cradle.

Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded in 1833 and its iconic Reverso model was first created in 1931.

Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2016 runs through January 22.
