For the best part of 30 years, Hong Kong Tatler’s Best Restaurants guide have been reviewing and revisiting the bulk of both Hong Kong and Macau’s most esteemed restaurants. Over time, we have come to recognise those restaurants (and the individuals that work in them) that have not only stood the test of time, but have managed to keep our interest and our patronage.

This year for our Best Restaurants guide, we decided to present our pick of the best 20 restaurants reviewed by our panel of esteemed critics, and ranked them in order after considering, at length, elements including food, setting, service, wine and value for money.

We also presented a bevvy of awards to some of the greatest workers in hospitality, from Best New Chef to Best Dim Sum and Best Cocktails. This year, the Amber team took home the two biggest gongs with our number one restaurant award and Best Chef award going to Richard Ekkebus and his brigade. We also welcomed St Betty’s Shane Osborn, who recently moved to Hong Kong from London, as the Best New Chef of 2012.

Below, we present the full list of top 20 restaurants and winners of our dining awards this year. Here’s to a full and happy 2013!
