The local restaurant group’s first opening in 2020 fuses theatrics and Japanese fine dining

This summer, Black Sheep Restaurants is opening Crown Super Deluxe, a new teppanyaki concept on Wyndham Street. The Japanese establishment is set to take reservations from June 12.

The Sean Dix-designed concept comprises a dining space equipped with three teppan as well as a whisky lounge. The interior elements of the former are custom-built, notably featuring golden onyx counters, mustard velvet mid-century-inspired armchairs, brushed gold chandeliers and plush purple carpeting. The restaurant takes on a timeless ambience, accentuated with a seamless playlist showcasing tunes of experimental jazz and funk classics.

The kitchen is headed by husband-and-wife team Toru Takano and Ami Hamasaki. The establishment will put a strong focus on beef, notably premium grain-fed USDA prime steaks and Australian wagyu. Guests can indulge in a selection of three prix fixe menu, particularly the Deluxe set menu showcasing the season’s best Japanese-import produce such as market-fresh sashimi from Toyosu market and Tokushima fruit tomato with sea salt to start, followed by teppan spiny lobster in coral butter and A5 Kagoshima wagyu served with the restaurant’s signature sauces as mains, complete with lobster miso soup as well as wagyu and garlic fried rice to complete the set menu.

Guests can complete the Crown Super Deluxe experience at the 30-seat dessert and whisky lounge where French classic desserts are served. Highlights include a French Vanilla diplomat cream-filled croquembouche and ‘Coconut Tart Shell’ as well as Japanese seasonal fruits, best accompanied by a wide selection of Japanese whiskies and American bourbons.
