To honour his late father’s food drive tradition, chef Leonard Cheung will be hosting a special charity dinner on June 29, with all proceeds going towards Feeding Hong Kong

Chef-owner Leonard Cheung will be hosting a one-night-only charity dinner at Cultivate on his birthday, June 29 next week in honour of his late father.

Prior to his recent passing, Cheung’s father had been organising company food drives and personally distributing packaged foods to the needy on Cheung’s birthday for the last twenty years of his life.

To keep the spirit of giving alive, Cheung will be emulating his father’s tradition by hosting a special eight-course dinner for 18 guests on his birthday. All proceeds from the birthday dinner will be donated to Feeding Hong Kong, a local food bank dedicated to reducing food waste by rescuing surplus food and distributing it to charity partners.

Guests can expect to taste refreshing summer flavours on the night, starting with a Kumamoto tart with kohlrabi (German turnip) and Vidalia onion; a chilled Spanish soup ‘ajo blanco’ with Lorenzini melon, jiu-niang and anise jelly; and Brussels sprouts with pancetta, green apple and hazelnut. Moving onto heartier flavours, a maitake mushroom dish with ‘pho gras’ and goji berries will be served, followed by a summery King Ora salmon with summer vegetables. For desserts, Cheung will be serving one of their signature desserts, banana bread with caviar; and french toast with maple glazed bacon, banana and peanuts named after Elvis.

The amount raised from the dinner will be able to provide 6,480 meals to people in need. While this dinner menu will only be available for one night, Cheung plans to continue its partnership with Feeding Hong Kong in other upcoming events.

Cultivate’s charity birthday dinner on June 29 is priced at HK$2400 per person. To learn more, please visit cultivate.hk
