Whether it's cheeseburger pizzas or backyard barbecues, indulge your inner American with these food and drink options this weekend

Why would anybody celebrate July 4 in Hong Kong? A better question yet is, why wouldn't they? From pizza and hot dogs, to flame-grilled steaks and good ol' Southern barbecue, there's enough going on this American Independence Day in Hong Kong to convert even your most ardent, anti-capitalist friend to the ways of the US of A. Raise a toast to the Star-Spangled Banner by making your way over to the happenings below.

Craving burgers and pizza but can't make up your mind? Honbo and Alvy's latest collaboration will ease your worries by combining the two. From now until July 7, Alvy's will be serving a Honbo-inspired cheeseburger pizza topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, molten American cheese, pickles, Double Gold standard ground beef, white onion and Honbo’s secret sauce; while visitors to Honbo's Sun Street location will be able to order cheeseburger pizza pockets, which pack the same ingredients into a calzone-like format.

Wash it all down with a trio of alcoholic drinks spiked with Wild Turkey bourbon, available at both restaurants. The lemonade slushie and bourbon highball make for refreshing hot-weather beverages, while the more patriotic Americans in our midst can throw back a pickle-back shot to prove their allegiance to the flag.

If you prefer to take the festivities home, Black Sheep Restaurants has just the thing for you with its Backyard BBQ Kit (HK$1,500) designed to serve six. With each order, you'll find two ready-to-cook hot dogs from Midway Beef Dogs for each person, with a smattering of toppings (yellow mustard, relish, pickled peppers, tomato, pickle spears, minced onion and celery salt) to choose from. This Chicago-style feast wouldn't be complete without an excess of side dishes—including classic coleslaw, macaroni salad, lemon dill potato salad, and spiced sweet corn salad with coriander and lime dressing. Finally, a whole cherry pie from Butter Cake Shop tops off the proceedings. Available exclusively via Black Sheep Go, the BBQ kits will be delivered before noon on July 4.

Smoke & Barrel

It doesn't get more patriotic than Smoke & Barrel's Fourth of July brunch celebration. From 11.30am to 4pm, the Central smokehouse will be serving up a brunch menu (HK$448 per person) designed for sharing; expect classic dishes like Maryland-style crab crostini, Memphis baby back ribs, Creole prawn skewers, and a hot dog barbecue out on the terrace. For an additional HK$288, celebrants can indulge in two hours of free-flow cocktails, wines and house spirits, along with a self-serve Brooklyn Brewery beer tap. Those looking for some old-fashioned, Wild West dueling can try their hand at corn hole games, or enter the fancy costume competition to win a HK$1,000 dining voucher. Reserve your spot by booking online here.
