From Halloween drinks and treats to hairy crab, Wagyu beef and more, here's what's new on the Hong Kong dining scene this week

To keep you up to date with everything food and drinks related in Hong Kong, we're rounding up everything that you may have missed from the dining scene this week, including everything from seasonal menus, dishes, events, drinks and more. Read on to find more about Duddell's new hairy crab menu, The Cakery's new vegan delights and Hong Kong-themed drinks at Terrible Baby––along with plenty of Halloween treats to get you in the spirit of spooky season.

Duddell’s unveils seasonal Hokkaido Hairy Crab menu

October is the season for hairy crab, and Michelin-starred Duddell's is going all out with their new menu starring Hokkaido hairy crab. Along with new crab-centric a la carte dishes, the restaurant is debuting a six-course hairy crab tasting menu, with items including hairy crab xiao long bao, steamed whole Hokkaido hairy crab and more. Served from October 16, crab lovers will be able to enjoy the new dishes and menu until the end of November.


The Optimist 5th anniversary celebrations

Wan Chai's The Optimist is turning five this month, and the restaurant is inviting the city to celebrate with them. Taking place on October 22, The 5 Years of Optimism Anniversary Dinner will feature fan favourite dishes including Chateaubriand and juicy lobster rice––with table bookings of four guests treated to a complimentary bottle of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne.

Accompanying the 5th anniversary celebrations, The Optimist is also running a limited time social media contest until October 31––inviting fans to share their favourite memories or anything that has made them think of the restaurant over the past five years, for a chance to win a complimentary dinner for four prepared by chef Jordi Valles.


New autumn menu at Aulis

Aulis is set to live up to its reputation for delivering immersive, multi-sensory dining experiences with its new 13-course autumn menu this month. Presented at the restaurant's 12-seater chef's table, the menu is available from Tuesday to Saturday evenings and features seasonal highlights such as smoked cod roe and pomelo tart, lamb neck with pearl barley and wild garlic, and a tonka bean custard tart with stout ice cream. The meal can be further complemented by either an alcoholic or non-alcoholic pairing.


Wagyu Beef Brunch at Hotel Icon

With a long weekend on the horizon, Hotel Icon's new Wagyu Beef Brunch Buffet is perfect for those looking to indulge. Carnivores can tuck into dishes signature including wagyu beef tartare bruschetta, roasted wagyu beef, and wagyu beef burger––all accompanied by free-flow drinks, naturally. 


The Cakery serves new vegan treats

Already known in the city for its range of vegan and gluten-free treats, The Cakery is this month unveiling more egg and dairy-free delights, including dessert tarts, bread, and pastries. Along with a new range of freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads and vegan croissants, The Cakery will be offering vegan tarts, such as passion fruit mango mousse, chocolate peanut butter and pistachio strawberry puree.

Terrible Baby drinks

With news of Edgarito Santillan moving onto new opening Honky Tonks Tavern, Terrible Baby welcomes Axel Gonzalez as Bar Manager. Previously working at Buenos Aires Polo Club and Taqueria Super Macho in Hong Kong, the mixologist has created an innovative new menu for the bar, including the launch of two Hong Kong-inspired cocktails.

The botanical Osmanthus Fizz features London Dry gin, chamomile tea syrup and osmanthus tea to make a refreshing sparkling libation, while Fallen Spritz is crafted with Havana 3, Italian cynar, fresh grapefruit juice, pomelo, orange shrub and prosecco––best enjoyed on Terrible Baby’s sprawling terrace.


World Martini Masterclass at The Wise King

Ever wondered how the pros make a perfect martini? With The Wise King's new masterclasses, you can learn secret techniques about cocktail making, along with enjoying tastings of Nip Gin and Mancino Vermouth, with award winning bartender Sandeep Kumar offering insight to the bar's local products and cocktails. Día de los Muertos at Te Quiero Mucho Sheung Wan

From October 29 to November 5, Te Quiero Mucho Sheung Wan is inviting everyone to celebrate Día de los Muertos with them. The Day of the Dead celebrations are set to feature free-flow drinks––including special Olmeca Tequila-based drinks, house wine, beers, Margaritas and Micheladas––along with a la carte tacos, guacamole and quesadillas. 


Pirata Group halloween happenings

Pirata Group restaurants––TMK, Tokyolima, Meats and The Optimist––will all be celebrating Halloween with a series of brunch and dinner experiences on October 31. At The Optimist, guests are encouraged to dress up and enjoy the Brunch of The Living Dead menu, complete with free-flow Pumpkin Sangria. It's set to be A Nightmare On Staunton Street at Meats with very Bloody Marys and a protein-packed feast; TMK will be putting on a special Dinner Mohawk menu, complete with cocktail syringe shooters; and Tokyolima are going creepy with haunted dollhouse vibes and devilishly delicious dishes and drinks.


Spooky Churros at Twist & Buckle

Promising to be as tasty as it is spooky, Twist & Buckle will be serving a Halloween special churro from October 26 to November 1. Dubbed the "Spooky Churro", the churro is garnished with Oreo crumbles "earth", a marshmallow spiders web and chocolate spiders, with the Instagram-worthy dessert tucked into Twist & Buckle's Hokkaido milk soft serve which is topped with even more "Oreo earth".
