The restaurant group’s latest offering fuses the best from Brazil and Japan in a new breed of colorful cuisine

After the success of Bibo, Tri, and The Ocean, restaurant group Le Comptoir is bringing a tropical taste to Wan Chai later this month, as Djapa will introduce a blend of Brazilian and Japanese cuisines.

The new two-storey restaurant and whisky bar resides at Lee Tung Avenue in Wan Chai. The ground floor is a relaxed bar equipped with colourful Japanese stools in an industrial chic setting. Aside from a fully stocked bar of over 300 types of Japanese whiskies, wines, and sakes, the bar also presents Japanese- and Brazilian-inspired cocktails.

Taking the helm of Djapa’s kitchen is executive chef Angel Romero, who aims to draw inspiration from vibrant flavours of Japan and Brazil. The kitchen is equipped with Japanese clay pot stations, robatayaki, together with an open kitchen on the main dining area on the first floor of the premises. Look for unique Nipo-Brasileiro creations such as:

- Tropical camarao (Brazilian dish of Cachaca-flambeed cassava and shrimps with Japanese tomatoes, kabocha squash, green papaya and mango)
- Quinoa octopus (Slow cooked and grilled octopus served with mint, parsley, dates, and quinoa fried with coconut oil)
- Suntanned crabs (Tiny Japanese Sawagani crabs served with citrus salt and a Japanese pork belly, black soy beans and cassava ‘sand’)
- Coconut beef dashi (Slow-cooked shishito pepper, confit garlic and quail eggs served with classic miso soup with a touch of coconut milk)

Djapa is set to open later this September. Reservations are available for parties of eight or more.
