The iconic hotel welcomes summer with bespoke rum appreciation experience in an unlikely location

The Mandarin Oriental is starting summer early with an all new pop-up event. Starting this May, a new rum appreciation promotion will run at the lounge area of the Mandarin Barber, the city’s men's grooming and styling haven, as guests can indulge in sampling a rich selection of fine Carribean rums together with treats prepared by the hotel’s executive chef Robin Zavou.

Tentatively starting on May 4, rum-lovers can sample a fine selection of Carribean rums carefully selected for the three-month pop-up by resident beverage manager Agung Prabowo, who selected the varieties from Barbados, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, and a Havana Club rum showcase from Cuba. Notable varieties highlighting this pop up event include:

Havana Club Anejo Especial
Havana Club Maximo Extra Anejo
El Dorado 12 Year Old
Matsusalem Gran Reserva 23
Plantation XO Barbados

Guests can also enjoy rum cocktails such as the Mandarin Barber Mojito and Prabowo’s creation the Old Cubanos mixing Havana Club selection de Maestros, chocolate bitters and Pedro Ximenez sherry. The hotel’s executive chef Robin Zavou has created a list of refreshments that pair well with rum, including Chicharrones (crispy pork skin with smoked paprika and tomatoes), Cuban sandwich (with honey glazed ham, cheddar cheese and taro fritters), mini pulled pork sliders (with caramelised onions) and arroz con leche (chilled rice pudding with lime biscuits). The rum appreciation pop-up will run at the Mandarin Barber for three months from 5pm to 8pm daily from May 4.
