Altaya Wines, in collaboration with some of the world’s best Pinot Noir winemakers, will be hosting its fifth edition of Passion for Pinot on this coming Saturday, June 14. This year, the consumer wine event will be held at The Mira in Tsim Sha Tsui and will be hosted by wine journalist and educator Debra Meiburg.
This year’s theme, Unmasking the Grape: Identity and Diversity, will focus on the underlying differences in aromas, textures and flavours of Pinot Noir from around the world. As the Hong Kong market becomes increasingly more interested in wine, this event hopes to provide consumers with insight into the diversity of the grape being showcased.
The 23 wineries involved on the day are said to include Domaine Falveley from Burgundy, Godmé from Champagne, Walter Hansel from Sonoma, as well as Rippon from Central Otago, Mahi from Marlborough and Giant Steps from Yarra Valley in Victoria.
The event will include a master class moderated by Meiburg, which will allow for an interactive and intimate experience between winemakers and attendees, allowing focus on how climatology, geology and topography (all elements of terroir) influence the taste of the wines available. Winemakers will also explain what they need to adjust in order to maintain quality and flavours of the wines they’ll have on hand.
Following the master class, a wine pairing lunch featuring Cantonese fare from Cuisine Cuisine will take guests on a journey through the pairing of Pinot Noir with authentic Chinese cuisine. The lunch will allow winemakers a chance to show off just how well Pinots pair with delicate dim sum dishes.
