The launch of the new vegetarian-lead offering is part of Ovolo Hotels’ ongoing pledge to ethical eating and will provide new plant-based menus across its hotel restaurants

In 2020, Ovolo Hotel Group became the first hotel group to go completely vegetarian under its ‘Year of the Veg’ initiative where venues transitioned to a vegetarian-only offering for a year. Now, the boutique hotel group is launching a new green initiative, Plant’d to provide new plant-based menus across its hotel restaurants globally from February 14.

The latest move is also part of the hotel group’s ongoing pledge to ethical eating and conscious cuisine. With this, it’s now also the first hotel brand globally to commit to a vegetarian-led offering.

“Meat is being removed for a second year in a row at Ovolo Hotels. With a number of our Ovolo venues already serving plant-based cuisine, we have decided to go the full 100 per cent. It’s been a strategic move but Ovolo prides itself on being an industry leader,” says  Ovolo Group’s founder and CEO, Girish Jhunjhnuwala. “We believe that the world changes, therefore we continue to evolve [and] we want to ensure we are doing our bit to help preserve our environment, promote healthy eating and enhance the image of amazing vegetarian and plant-based dining,” he adds.

Ovolo Group’s creative culinary partner, Ian Curley worked with the hotel’s restaurants across the globe including Hong Kong, Australia and Bali to take the Plant’d pledge.

“The one big lesson we have learned from our bold experiment: never underestimate your guests. A key focus for us has been ensuring we are creating something that still appeals to everyone—from vegans to flexitarians, and those who are simply keen on expanding their palette,” shares Curley.

The hotel’s decision to go completely green is inspired by an increasing interest in the benefits of a plant-based diet which reflects Ovolo’s own commitment to delivering on its customers’ needs while promoting an “eat good, feel good” mentality.

In addition to the new offering, the Ovolo team has also created a Plant’d Playbook white paper which includes information on the reasons the hotel has made the switch, what to know before you go completely green, tips on defining food and beverage menu and their learnings along the way.

“There has also been a lot of learnings along the way and we want to share those insights with others in the industry and outside the industry considering making the switch to a vegetarian-lead offering or integrating it into their existing offering. That’s why we have created our Plant’d Playbook white paper, which will be publicly available for all to access,” says Jhunjhnuwala.

The white paper will be publically available via Ovolo’s Plant’d webpage in support of companies and individuals looking to move to a vegetarian-lead philosophy and lifestyle.
