The Academics Group’s new concept blends wellness with an appreciation for fine brews

In response to the rise of café culture and the growing appreciation of fine teas in Hong Kong—thanks to establishments such as Teakha, Basao, and Mother Pearl—, The Academics group, behind The Coffee Academics chain, has launched The Tea Academics. The new brand is focused on specialty teas, with the first branch located in Central, which features a fine selection tea beverages together with plant-based food offerings available throughout the day.

The Tea Academics focuses on two key aspects of wellness: specialty teas and plant-based cuisine. Sourced globally and hand brewed by resident tea sommeliers Suki Chan and Candy Cheung, the new café’s tea highlights include white tea from Yunnan, Taiwanese red oolong, Darjeeling first flush, and pink camomile, brewed to order with two flushes per serving.

Composed tea beverages are also available, and the café’s tea-based lattes are prepared with soy milk or almond milk. Iced teas such as Botanist (Phoenix Dancong, longan, jujubes and first-flush Darjeeling syrup); and Blue (oolong tea with butterfly pea infusion, pear, and Osmanthus syrup) are also some of the café’s notable beverages.

New Zealand chef Atisha Kumar takes the helm of The Tea Academics kitchen, which serves plant-based dishes such as paratha omelette, matcha miso soba, beetroot coconut pancake, and Omnipork dan dan noodles. On the sweets side, the menu also includes freshly baked pastries and superfood loaves such as confetti sliced cake, Basque cheesecake, and scones served with either Earl Grey tea jam or tomato chutney throughout the day. The 48-seat café runs from 8:00 am weekdays (10:00 am on weekends) and closes at 8:00 pm.
