The best 20 restaurants in the region have been decided in the newest edition of Hong Kong Tatler’s annual dining guide

It seems like only yesterday when we launched the first-ever Top 20 Best Restaurants list in the 2013 edition of Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurants guide. It’s never an easy task to rank, in order, the diverse pool of world-class eateries we have available to us in Hong Kong and Macau. The list is dynamic – we take into account everything that has happened in the past year since the last official list was judged, including the dining experiences throughout the year – not just our official, anonymous review visit in the summer and autumn months.

There are the old stalwarts, but also powerful newcomers as well. In the 2014 guide, we have five excellent additions to the list, including Jade Dragon, last year’s recipient of the Best New Restaurant award. Young chefs who are clearly in their prime have also snapped up Top 20 positions – Jonay Armas of The Principal has proven to us in the past year that he has what it takes to tackle the old stalwarts of the dining scene, while Vicky Lau of Tate is also making impressive inroads. Coincidentally, she is also the only female chef currently on our list – and we hope there will be many more climbing onto the list in the years to come. Their achievements are a true testament to the quality of dining we have available to us in Hong Kong and Macau.

The Top 20 Best Restaurants Awards were presented at our 30th Anniversary cocktail and awards ceremony held at Duddell’s, which saw the regions’ best chefs, sommeliers and restaurant professionals coming together for a brilliant evening of culinary chinwagging, champagne sipping, and celebration. A special film created by our team here on Hong Kong Tatler Dining, featuring the individuals behind the Top 20 Best Restaurants, premiered before the official award ceremony.
