Matsubishi

One of the important aspect of the business lunch is making a good first impression, and few places impress like Matsubishi in the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel. The rich earthy décor is comforting and provides a relaxing ambience. If you really want to impress your clients, book three days in advance to reserve seats at their legendary teppanyaki table, where the chefs expertly put on a spectacular show of flipping and frying your food. The premium matsu set (HK$250) with Mitsuwa beef is a firm favourite.

Fook Lam Moon

Established in 1948, Fook Lam Moon on Johnston Road remains a respected establishment for fine Cantonese dining. The Wan Chai branch is the original restaurant of the chain, having opened at its current location in 1989.

It is a quiet and spacious place to conduct business and has thus earned the nickname the "canteen of the rich" by the local media. You might even spot the CEO of a certain large estate holding. Although famous for its abalone dinners, few things help people bond like a traditional yum cha lunch. Order popular dumplings such as har gow and siu mai, or if you're taking out a whole department, try their famous roast whole suckling pig (HK$1,200).

Grand Café

Known for its expansive and delicious buffet dinner at night, the Grand Café at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Hotel is a classic five-star coffee shop during the day. Overlooking a panorama of the Victoria Harbour that is complemented by airy high ceilings, diners can enjoy the varied international menu featuring both western and eastern cuisines including the famous Hainan chicken and possibly Hong Kong's best Caesar salad.

It is perfect for a business meeting with overseas clients who will appreciate the view and the quiet relief from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Pawn

Despite its classification as a modern British eatery, this is not the bland boarding school cuisine of your youth. From the group behind the chic Press Room and Classified chain, this eatery has appropriated the former home of the famous Chinese Woo Cheong Pawn Shop dating back to the late 1800s, while the menu includes excellent fish and chips, roasted bone marrow and classic British desserts such as Eton mess and sticky toffee pudding. The Pawn is resonant of colonial days with its iconic views of passing Hong Kong trams, antique furniture, and the 19th century Chinese shophouse setting. Get inspired by Hong Kong's entrepreunial history while dining and talking shop.

Duetto

Having trouble deciding on just one cuisine? Go for what is described as "Mumbai and Milan together." Don't worry; you won't be eating any strange fusion of Italian and Indian. Duetto in Sun Hung Kai Centre is the merging of the famed Indian restaurant Viceroy and the adjacent Milano. The set lunch special (HK$148) makes for an easy mixing of the two styles, offering an appetiser paired with either pasta or biriyani. Who knows? Perhaps the gregariousness of the two cultures will rub off on your client, making him more open to striking a deal.
