The new Italian eatery on Third Street brings the country’s familial comfort along with a strong focus on natural wines

This March, Sai Ying Pun is adding a new Italian restaurant to its popular dining district. Two Italian hotel-alumni are set to present homely comfort food inspired by Italian households, paired with a wide selection of natural wines at Lucale.

Headlining Lucale’s kitchen are two Italian chefs: Alessandro Angelini, formerly at Kowloon Shangri-La’s Angelini; and Luca de Berardinis of Conrad’s Nicholini’s. Together the duo are setting up Lucale for Italian dining with a laid-back ambience. Guests can unwind over a selection of premium Italian charcuterie such as cured Parma ham, paired with burrata cheese and Sicilian Pachino tomatoes. The Italian restaurant also showcases simple but modernised Italian classics, such as Caesar Salad Revisited, where the traditional green salad is embellished with shavings of goose liver, balsamic pearls and hazelnut paste; Cappelletti di Bolognese Bianca (stuffed pasta filled with white Bolognese sauce and topped with Parmigiano Reggiano DOP 18 months); and La Bistecca di Fassona con Rosso (Piedmont’s one-kilo Fassona rib steak).

Guests can indulge in Lucale’s wide selection of natural and biodynamic wines sourced from various regions across Italy, followed by desserts such as a contemporary version of Tiramisu di Lucale, and strawberry and lychee-laden Nutella Broken Pie.
