The United We Dine Campaign To Support Hong Kong Restaurants Returns November 2020

The Tatler Dining initiative encourages Hongkongers to go out and support their favourite restaurants and bars, with some luxurious incentives along the way

What a crazy year it’s been—and with Christmas just around the corner, festive feasting is on everyone’s minds. While the world still grapples with Covid-19, the vigilance of Hongkongers in suppressing the spread of the virus is still very much sustained, meaning we can resume much of regular life—such as dining out at our favourite restaurants and drinking at new bars—with confidence. While diners are slowly returning, the impact that the pandemic has had on our F&B industry will take some time to recover from. It’s with this in mind that we are proud to announce the return of the United We Dine campaign, an initiative that encourages the community to support the restaurant and bar community.

Originally launched in March 2020, the campaign featured a 100-strong list of restaurants offering unique menus to motivate diners to lend their support; even with the second wave of Covid-19, diners were still able to support by ordering delivery or takeaway throughout the campaign. As an extra incentive, for every five restaurants supported, diners could submit their receipts to be entered into a prize competition—with gifts ranging from luxury hotel stays to fine wines. Ultimately, United We Dine generated more than HK$2.5 million in submitted receipts and reignited the public’s interest in dining out and supporting their favourite restaurants before it was too late. We also received an overwhelming response to our question of “why do you support Hong Kong’s dining scene?” with submissions ranging from multi-stanza poems to parodic music videos and poignant reflections on how much the restaurant industry plays a part in our lives.

On 11 November, the second season of United We Dine returns, supported by American Express and Hong Kong Tourism Board. The enticing new line-up includes unique menus available from 11 November to 31 January 2021, and every participating restaurant will offer exclusive treats only available to American Express Cardmembers, from complimentary glasses of champagne to extra dishes or privileges.

The prize line-up is just as sensational, with luxury hotel stays sponsored by the likes of Four Seasons Hong Kong, Rosewood Hong Kong, and Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong; premium champagnes, wines and spirits; high-end kitchen appliances and dining vouchers for top Hong Kong restaurants. To enter the giveaway, you must keep and submit your receipts from spending at participating restaurants and bars; for every HK$100 you spend, you will gain one entry in the prize draw.

Raising Hong Kong's Spirits

What's more, we are also launching The Hong Kong Cocktail in tandem with the United We Dine campaign—an initiative involving mixologists from 20 of Hong Kong’s leading bars, bound together in the pursuit of designing a signature drink to represent the city. Through the spirit of collaboration, innovation and inspiration, the creations aim to tell a story of an incredible city through an iconic libation—and we want you to help us decide on what should be the final cocktail that best represents Hong Kong. The original cocktails will be available to order at participating bars and restaurants starting 11 November, and you are invited to try them all before voting for your favourite. 

With the festive season coming up, there’s no better time to unite with friends and family and share a meal or a drink in good spirits, and help our vibrant dining industry survive the winter and beyond.
