The long anticipated solo restaurant from the Mandarin Grill alumnus will open in late autumn

After a long stint at the Mandarin Grill and his recurring tenure at Beef & Liberty, esteemed chef Uwe Opocensky is set to go solo on a new venture tentatively opening late this autumn.

No stranger to the local fine dining scene, the German native is celebrated for his creative take on classic dishes presented with visually stunning aesthetics and complex textures, as demonstrated in previous years while he worked as executive chef at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong as the front man of Mandarin Grill and the Krug Room. Following his Mandarin Oriental days, Opocensky relocated to take the helm of Beef & Liberty to refine and polish the humble burger, with projects including a recent mushroom collaboration with Krug champagne.

Opocensky’s latest project is simply named Uwe, and will be his first solo restaurant, set at the Sheung Wan end of Hollywood Road. The modest ground floor space resides in a quieter stretch of the Soho dining neighborhood and takes over the space previously occupied by Bayta.

Tentatively opening on September 27, Uwe will be open for dinner from Wednesdays to Saturdays. Opocensky aims to impress guests with dishes formed from local organic ingredients with wine pairing options available. The restaurant is currently offering a six-course tasting menu priced at HK$1,088 per person. Advanced reservations are available here
