From a tropical afternoon tea to a taste of Mexico, summer kicks off early with the city’s new gourmet happenings

Winter has been great, but we are ready for summer – its vibrant range of colours, cocktails, and taste for the exotic. Here are our picks for the perfect summer pastime.


 Coco Café Pop-Up

What: Mark your calendars, fans of Chanel, as the celebrated brand is setting up a pop-up takeover at the Coffee Academics in Causeway Bay, transforming the coffee mecca into a makeup lover’s paradise. The two-week pop-up event will present guests with coffee and snacks, together with a mini makeover opportunity, including changing nail shades and a special sneak peek of Le Rouge Crayon De Couleur, the brand’s latest lip product. A Taste of Mexico At Test Kitchen

What: After a successful sold-out pop-up event with chef Peter Cuong Franklin,  Test Kitchen is setting its eyes on family-style dinners next, inviting chef Luis Aguilar from Tulum’s Safari restaurant in Mexico for a real taste of the exotic cuisine. Chef Aguilar’s culinary career spans through the Bahamas and New Zealand, eventually settling down in Tulum, Mexico in 2015 to open Safari, a taqueria style establishment. This month, chef Luis will host a five-day celebration of Mexican flavours, featuring a five-course taqueria style weekend lunch, priced at HK$480 per person as well as evening tasting dinner menu at HK$1,080 per person (with cocktails and beer pairing). Gin Masterclass at Dr. Fern’s

What: In celebration of World Gin Day, Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour is hosting a gin masterclass featuring resident head bar manager Gerry Olino. With three sessions available, participants of the masterclass will have the opportunity to work with Herno gin and Generous gin, in an instructional workshop on gin mixing, together with a DIY garnish station available. Participating guests can also indulge in refreshments from charcuterie and cheese boards served alongside four gin flights and four half-tonics served during each session. Tropical Afternoon Tea at Ritz-Carlton

What: The Ritz-Carlton is presenting a special tropical fruit themed afternoon tea all summer long. The new set of afternoon delights is created by world pastry champion Franck Michel, designed especially for this promotion. The Meilleur Ouvrier de France (best artisan of France pastry chef) is presenting a set of sweet and savoury treats, including his signatures such as passion choux, almond apricot dome, blackcurrant and violet macarons, and bergamot marshmallows. The tropical afternoon tea set is served at Café 103 and is priced at HK$378 per person and HK$618 for two (Monday to Friday) and HK$398 for one and HK$638 for two (weekends and public holidays).
