Our Readers’ Choice Award for 2016’s hottest new opening is back

Say what they may about the economy, the last 12 months have seen their fair share of restaurant openings—giving us a ripe shortlist of contenders for this year’s Best New Restaurant award. Since 2013, we’ve relied on the voices of our readers to crown the ultimate winner—Catalunya (2013), Mott 32 (2014) and Mr & Mrs Fox (2015) have been chosen in previous years as the popular choice, reflecting the taste and trends of that particular time.

This year, we have an unprecedented number of nominees: a collection of excellent restaurants that our panel have visited and reviewed in the last year, whittled down to the strongest 12. As well as looking at our own experiences plus the buzz these venues created around their opening, we also took a look at the general feedback from regular diners across the board. Ultimately, this is a list that is varied in its types of restaurants—from five-star hotel dining temples to casual neighbourhood eateries—and we’re excited to see which one comes out on top.

Voting is open now and will close at 23:59 on October 14. Anyone who votes will have the chance to receive a copy of the 2017 Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurants guide, as well as a bottle of Laurent Perrier Cuvée Rosé champagne. We’ll be deciding the 20 winners based on the quality of the answer they give when voting for their favourite restaurant—check out last year’s for inspiration.
