There's plenty going on this week with the latest openings and fresh new food and drink offerings

With many of Hong Kong's top chefs away in Singapore this week with the announcement of the World's 50 Best Restaurants, you might be inclined to dine in rather than eat out—we're saying scrap that idea, because there's plenty going on right here (plus, in reality, would you eat at a restaurant that is so reliant on one person being present?). This month's hot new opening is Julien Royer's Louise, which is just shy of a week old. Located in the PMQ spot that previously housed Aberdeen Street Social, the French-forward restaurant designed by Andre Fu is offering casual all-day dining on the ground floor and more upscale food in the upstairs dining room. Drop by for coffee and pastries or book in for lunch or dinner to enjoy Royer's take on roast chicken (using local poultry), pate en croute, or sauteed frog legs with parsley and garlic crisps.

PDT at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental is one of our favourite bars—not only for the solid drinks list but for the deeply satisfying snack menu as well, with its upscale riffs on guilty pleasures, from tater tots to hotdogs. Kickstarting the next phase of their hotdog menu will be a series of guest chef creations, with Mingles' chef Mingoo Kang presenting the inaugural offering. Known for his contemporary Korean cooking, Kang has designed a 'dog that combines his native cuisine with Hong Kong touches; his hotdog feaures thinly-sliced Korean BBQ-grilled marinated sirloin, ginger mayonnaise, sesame seeds, sesame oil and chopped chives.

Apart from eating this week, don't forget about drinking. It's the 100 year anniversary of when the Negroni was created, and the seventh iteration of Negroni Week will take place between June 24 and 30. In Hong Kong, more than 100 bars and restaurants will be serving up their best take on the classic Campari cocktail, including some of our favourites: The Sea by The Old Man, Employees Only, The Wise King, DarkSide at Rosewood Hong Kong, Stockton and Fukuro. Proceeds from each Negroni sold will contribute towards charity.

Haku launches a new summer menu this month. Inspired by the produce from the year’s warmer months, the new 11-course summer menu fuses Japanese elements and chef Agustin Balbi’s Spanish roots. Guests can indulge in new starters such as somen with plankton and Spanish extra virgin olive oil, topped with Kristal caviar, followed by Fukuoka oyster with green asparagus, smoked salmon roe and a sauce made with yoghurt, ponzu and oyster water. Harvested fresh from organic farms in New Territories, local seasonal vegetables, edible flowers and herbs are paired with the establishment’s homemade miso in the new menu, as well as menu highlights such as lobster and olives, and Balbi’s rice with abalone. The new summer menu is priced at HK$1,480 per person.

On June 28 and 29, Sake Central is presenting a two-night pop-up event featuring Trippa Trattoria Milano from Milan, Italy. Revered for his ever-changing menu based on nose-to-tail cooking, Diego Rossi—head chef and co-founder of the restaurant—is heading to Hong Kong for the collaboration, showcasing his restaurant’s signatures prepared with Asia-Pacific produce. The Trippa dinner menu is available at Sake Central for two consecutive nights. Reservations are available here.
