Heidi Klum and Michelle Yeoh were just a couple of the Hollywood stars that attended this year’s Amfar gala dinner, which was held at the newly opened Rosewood Hong Kong and raised over US$2.75million. A high point of the evening was when last year’s recipient Cathy Lee took to the stage to introduce gallerist Rachel Lehmann of Lehmann Maupin, and American musician Pharrell Williams, who presented the Amfar Award of Courage to Adrian Cheng, recognizing his contributions towards combatting HIV and AIDS. Lehmann and Williams highlighted Cheng’s many charitable pursuits and emphasized how he’s a changemaker on the global stage, evident from his efforts to empower local communities. During his acceptance speech, Cheng urged others to support Amfar’s commendable research efforts and emphasized that “through the collective power of human imagination, especially by mobilizing the next generation and embracing the power of innovation, culture and creativity, we can all play a part in solving the world’s most challenging health issues.” Another high point of the night was the musical performances which saw Grammy Award-nominated songstress Nicole Scherzinger serenade the crowd with her hits including “Buttons,” and “Don’t Hold Your Breath,” and Chinese musician Lay Zhang also performed his chart-topping hit, “Perfume.”
