Proceeds from Gen.T’s Friends of Phoenixes NFT collection will go towards five important causes across Asia. In Singapore, it will benefit The Codette Project, a non-profit providing minority women opportunities in the tech world

When the eighth edition of the Tatler Gen.T List 2023 was unveiled on June 1, Tatler Asia also announced the launch of a new purpose-driven initiative: its first-ever charitable NFT (non-fungible token) collection.

Signifying renewal and the strength to overcome challenges, the collection is aptly named Phoenixes of Tomorrow, a play on the Leaders of Tomorrow moniker bestowed on the honourees featured on the annual Gen.T List. It comprises 180 profile picture (PFP) NFTs, created exclusively for 2023 Gen.T honourees.

Singaporean artist Dawn Ang, who creates under the name Aeropalmics, designed these unique digital keepsakes, centring them around the phoenix, a mythical bird known for being able to be reborn from its ashes and return stronger.

While the Phoenixes of Tomorrow cannot be sold or traded, each comes with a Friend of Phoenix NFT, which can be purchased on the NFT marketplace, OpenSea, to raise money for important causes across Asia.

The Friends of Phoenixes NFTs have a similar design to the Phoenixes of Tomorrow NFTs, but with a small badge on the bird’s chest. There are only 100 of each Friend of Phoenix NFT available—each going for 0.06 ETH.

All proceeds from the Friends of Phoenixes collection will go to five charities and non-profit organisations: The Codette Project in Singapore, The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association, Yayasan Chow Kit in Malaysia, Angat Buhay in the Philippines and Kids’ Bookhouse in Taiwan.

Empowering communities

Founded by Gen.T honouree Nurul Jihadah Hussain in 2015, The Codette Project is a non-profit organisation pushing for greater inclusivity and diversity in the technology industry. Through educational workshops and programmes, and corporate partnerships with the likes of Google and Zendesk, it is enabling women from minority communities in Singapore to upskill themselves, be coached by experts and pursue jobs in technology.

“If you are looking at long-term economic growth, especially for the minority and Muslim community, I believe the tech industry is the most level playing field for success,” once said Nurul in an interview with Tatler

The Codette Project has seen more than 4,000 women participating in its events and workshops, as of October 2022.

“Our measure of success has always been just one woman,” said Nurul. “[It is] a win because women are amplifiers of success. They do this, then [they share with their] friends and family, and that creates long-term impact.”
