A few years ago, organic, plant-based dining was a rare and unusual find in Hong Kong. But then Peggy opened Grassroots Pantry, helping to spearhead a green movement that’s now thriving in the city. The entrepreneur started off with a quaint eatery and workshop in Sai Ying Pun in 2012, through which she intended to share her passion for unprocessed, sustainable and hearty vegan food with the community.
It was a definitive hit, and three years later she moved Grassroots Pantry to its much bigger and more glamorous location on Hollywood Road, where it packs a full house daily. Many carnivores forget that the menu is strictly vegetarian because Peggy’s dishes are just that good; our favourites include the beetroot gnocchi and her signature mushroom linguini.
