Ever used a Handy smartphone, preloaded with travel guides, unlimited calls, 3G data and Wi-Fi, and currently found in tens of thousands of hotel rooms across Asia? Thank Terence. The entrepreneur started his company at age 24 after struggling to find free Wi-Fi on holiday. In the span of a few years, he’s turned the concept into one of the world’s first hospitality technology companies, Tink Labs.
Reportedly valued at more than US$500 million, the venture is one of Hong Kong’s highest-valued tech start-ups. It’s partnered with hotel groups including Starwood, Accor, Shangri-La and Meliá, and nearly a million people use Handy each month.
This year, Terence is unveiling tailor-made Tink Labs devices that can control in-room entertainment in hotel rooms; he’s also planning to grow his current team of 150 people and expand to seven international offices. His goal is clear: to take over the (hotel) world, one mobile at a time.
