In an era where serious journalism is facing challenges around the world, Tom is one of the most compelling critical voices in Hong Kong’s media landscape. The writer and media entrepreneur is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of Hong Kong Free Press, a two-year-old crowdfunded English-language news service. He put it together with a small team of journalists to ensure independent, high-quality reporting in the city, and to respond to the press freedom issues currently afflicting the local media sector.
Prior to that, Tom was one of the most prolific journalists covering Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protests of 2014. He’s also the force behind popular blog Hong Wrong as well as Hong Kong Helpers, a multimedia advocacy and legal campaign for domestic workers in the city.
