Teachers have the ability to change lives, which is why schools need the brightest and most passionate graduates at the front of their classrooms. Arnold Chan is on a mission to find such teachers and, most importantly, to place them where they can have the greatest impact. His non-profit organisation Teach4HK works to enlist outstanding university graduates to serve in underprivileged schools by offering one-year, full-time teaching fellowships. It’s a challenge to persuade Hong Kong’s best to choose teaching over a more lucrative job in finance or commerce, but Arnold’s passion to improve Hong Kong’s education system is infectious. Founded in 2015, the charity had recruited 41 graduates as teaching fellows and served thousands of students just three years later. Arnold has also raised more than US$3 million to support Teach4HK’s future development.
